Undergraduate Admissions

Mercer engineering students are an exceptional group. Engineering study demands academic dedication, personal discipline, and a good high school preparation. To be admitted to the school, students must demonstrate that they have the preparation necessary to be successful in engineering studies. Each application for admission is carefully reviewed, and each student's academic record is examined with a special emphasis placed on the student's course work and test scores in mathematics. Because of this emphasis on a student's math background, admission to the School of Engineering is somewhat more selective than admission to the other schools of the university.

Freshman Admissions

You will be considered a freshman applicant if you are a current high school graduate or if you have fewer than 9 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university.

To apply for admission to the School of Engineering you need to submit:

  1. A completed Freshman Application for Admission. Indicate your desire to study engineering on the application or apply online.
  2. A $50.00 non-refundable application fee. Please send check, money order, or call for credit card authorization 800-840-8577.
  3. An official copy of your high school transcript. See your high school guidance office; the transcript should include grades through the end of your junior year.
  4. An official copy of your SAT or ACT test results. These can be on an official copy of your transcript or on a college score report made by the College Board or ACT.

Transfer Admissions

You will be considered a transfer applicant if you have more than 9 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university. This generally does not include credit from technical or military schools.

To apply for admission to the School of Engineering you need to submit:

  1. A completed Transfer Application for Admission. Indicate your desire to study engineering on the application.
  2. A $40.00 non-refundable application fee. Please send check, money order, or call for credit card authorization 800-840-8577.
  3. An official copy of your transcripts from EACH accredited college or university at which you have been enrolled.
  4. If you have completed less than 30 semester hours of post-secondary credit, you will also need to submit the following:
    * An official copy of your final high school transcript.
    * An official copy of your SAT or ACT test results.
These can be on an official copy of your transcript or on a college score report made by the College Board or ACT.

In order to be fully accepted to the Mercer University School of Engineering as a transfer student, you must have maintained at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA (in all attempted courses). While Mercer will review each application on its particular merit, and will consider work experience, length of time since last enrollment, etc., this minimum GPA is generally required for acceptance.

Transfer students should apply as soon as they can anticipate the term in which they wish to start at Mercer. In order to ensure proper evaluation of course credit and full consideration for scholarships and financial aid, transfer students should have submitted a complete application file no later than 45 days prior to the term they wish to start. Students are notified of admission decisions on a rolling basis, so they can usually expect a decision within a month of completing the application requirements.
