Internship Advice & Information

Why should you be actively searching for an engineering or medical related summer job?
    • Gain hands-on experience.
    • Broaden your horizons.
    • Apply what you’ve learned in the classroom.
    • Learn about what you like and what you don’t like, both of which are important.
    • Establish contacts in the field.
Remember, boosting your resume should NOT be your primary motivation.

There are two types of summer jobs:
    • Industry Related - companies, may or may not be biomedical related.
    • Research Related - academic institutions, hospitals.

To find a summer job exhaust ALL of your resources:

    • Resume Posting (SuccessTrack- Career Services).
    • Career Services (They can help with it all- resumes, interviews, contacts).
    • Older Students (Where did they work? Did they like it? How to apply? Who to contact?).
    • Personal Contact (Who can hook you up?).
    • Web
    • Make sure to CHECK OUT the Career Services Events Calendar!!
Also, the main page for Career Services is very useful.

    Online resources include:

usually for upcoming juniors and seniors only.

*** Be careful with online resources, because sometimes they are not updated! ***

    When should I start?
    • ASAP! (you should always be on the lookout for ops).
    • Now: start building a resume, think about your interests (electronics? mechanics? tissue egr?).
    • This semester: search for opportunities and their deadlines.
    • Next semester: contact places you are interested in, attend career fair.
