student spotlight

The accomplishments of our students are very important to us at the School of Engineering.

Maria J. F. Mueller, Senior
Environmental Specialization

I came to Mercer in the Fall Semester of 2006 as an international transfer student from Colombia.  I had studied environmental engineering for three years in Bogotá.  Before coming to Mercer I had to take the TOEFL and have my coursework verified and translated for the application.  My husband found work near Mercer, so I applied to the environmental engineering program.

My biggest accomplishment at Mercer was managing to perform well in classes taught in English.   Of course, adjusting to a new culture was also a challenge.  I don’t think I would have succeeded without the support I received from my husband and my teachers at Mercer.  My professors at Mercer were very friendly and approachable, especially my environmental engineering professors.  They were all really good at teaching.

I am proud to have been selected for membership into the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, and for making the Dean’s List and the President’s List.  I was honored to receive the 2007-2008 Dr. Robert Rozier Outstanding Student in Environmental Engineering Award.
