For our corporate partners Mercer's Technical Communication department is able to operate as successfully as it does due to our strong corporate partnerships. All companies interested in partnering with the program should contact Dr. Marjorie T. Davis, Department Chair. Opportunities for involvement include the following: Consulting Projects Technical Communicatoin faculty members actively participate in consulting projects for firms and organizations. To review faculty members' consulting experience, click here. Class Projects The department strongly believes in educating students through real-world projects. To provide this project experience, the department matches students with organizations to fill set needs in their firms. Depending on the scope of the project, entire classes may collaborate to work on one large project or individual students may work on smaller projects. Upcoming project areas on which students will be collaborating include usability studies, proposal writing, editing of a technical manuscript, instructional design, website design, and brochure design. If you are interested in partnering with a student or class but your interest area is not listed here, please contact Dr. Marjorie T. Davis as it may still be possible to incorporate your project into a class project. Internships The department places great importance on the benefit of internships to students. Students are required to intern at least one semester in a TCO-related field. To count towards students' required internships, internships must be full-time (40 hours/week) and paid. Most students choose to complete their internships during the summers before or after their senior years. Click here to view more information for prospective internship employers (.pdf). Please contact Dr. Marjorie T. Davis if you would like an internship opportunity posted within our department. If you have an internship that does not meet the above criteria, please contact the department regardless as students may wish to gain additional profession experience prior to completing their required internship. |
