Program Requirements
About the Major
Mercer’s Biomedical Engineering major includes 4 core areas: Biomechanics, Biofluids, Bioinstrumentation, and Tissue and Cell Engineering.
Additionally, students can select from 2 curricular paths:
- The traditional path emphasizes more mathematics and engineering.
- The pre-medical/science path emphasizes the sciences and meets the pre-requisite course requirements for medical schools.
Program Requirements
Students on both the traditional path and the pre-medical/science path are required to take the introductory class in each of the 4 core areas and take an advanced class in 2 of the 4 core areas.
Traditional path
- General Education: 32 hours
- Engineering Core: 45 hours
- Additional Mathematics: 3 hours
- Additional Science: 16 hours
- Required Biomedical Engineering (BME) Courses: 24 hours
- Technical Electives: 9 hours
- Total: 129 hours
Pre-medical/science path
- General Education: 32 hours
- Engineering Core: 45 hours
- Additional Science: 26 hours
- Required Biomedical Engineering (BME) Courses: 24 hours
- Technical Electives: 6 hours
