Housed within Mercer University’s School of Engineering, the Bachelor of Science in Human-Centered Information Design and Technology prepares students to communicate specialized information—especially in emerging fields like artificial intelligence—with clarity, empathy, and impact.
Students learn to translate complex concepts from science, medicine, engineering, and technology into accessible content for many audiences. Through hands-on experience with digital tools and media—including instructional videos, interactive websites, AI-assisted writing technologies, and print documentation—they become fluent in both traditional and next-generation communication platforms.
Graduates are uniquely positioned to shape how the public, professionals, and stakeholders understand and interact with information delivered by evolving technologies.

You will also have the opportunity to earn class credit while gaining real-world experience working with clients to improve their products and services. Our Information Design department believes that real-world experience is the most important part of creating top-tier graduates, so many of our classes collaborate with real clients to help you build a strong portfolio.

Students in certain classes also have access to a fully equipped usability lab and a two-person podcasting studio, each outfitted with industry-standard software and equipment.
