Advanced Preparation
Mercer’s M.S.E. in Environmental Engineering program emphasizes 4 major areas:
- Biotechnology and remediation
- Water quality
- Solid and hazardous wastes
- Air quality
The program is open to all qualified engineers, regardless of undergraduate engineering major. Students who do not have an adequate background in chemistry or biology may be required to take additional courses.

I was able to get involved in research as early as Freshman year, working on Grey Water reuse for residential irrigation with Dr. McCreanor. I was also able to continue my research experience with Dr. Butler and a low-cost air sensor that can detect particulate matter. These experiences helped supplement my classroom education, bringing to life the concepts that I was learning.
